IESE Business School (Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa, English: "Institute of Higher Business Studies" or "International Graduate School of Management") is the graduate business school of the University of Navarra. IESE has campuses in Barcelona, Madrid, and New York City and teaching facilities in Munich and Sao Paulo.[1] IESE offers Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive MBA programs that are consistently ranked among the best in the world.[2][3] IESE is an initiative of Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. IESE's endowment in December 2006 stood at an all-time high of US$32.64 million.
IESE came into prominence in 1964 by launching the first two-year MBA program in Europe under the guidance of the Harvard Business School.[4] The Harvard-IESE Joint Advisory Committee was established in 1963 and continues to meet annually concerning matters of mutual interest.[5] In 2007, IESE began offering academic programs in the United States with the opening of the Institute for Media and Entertainment (IME) in New York City. With the opening of its state-of-the-art New York Center campus in midtown Manhattan in April 2010, IESE became the first European business school to establish permanent operations in the U.S.[6]
In 2010, The Economist ranked IESE's MBA program as the 1st two-year MBA program in Europe and 5th in the world. In 2009, The Economist ranked IESE's program as the top two-year MBA program in the world.[7] In the 2010 QS Global 200 Business Schools Report[8] the school was ranked 4th in Europe.
IESE had previously ranked as number one business school in the world based on the study of the Economist Intelligence Unit of 2005 and 2006.[9] The criteria on which The Economist bases its ranking are (a) opening of new career opportunities (35%), (b) personal development/educational experience (35%), (c) increase in salary (20%), and (d) potential to network (10%).[10]
IESE also ranked 9th in the world tied with MIT Sloan School of Management based on a 2010 assessment by the Financial Times,[11] and first among non-U.S two-year MBA programs according to Forbes magazine in 2007.[12][13]
IESE is involved in joint-venture executive education, offering open-enrollment programs in partnership with business schools and companies in the U.S. and elsewhere since 1994. The school's in-company programs have attracted such clients as Bertelsmann, British Telecom, Boeing, Fortis, Henkel, Sun Microsystems and Volkswagen in recent months.[14]

Candidates applying to the IESE Business School are advised to show how they are different or unique (i.e. via a great achievement in music or sports, a significant international experience, interesting work experience, etc.), and how this will allow them contribute to the program. [2]. Also, it is important to show open-mindedness and willingness to learn from differences.
As part of the admission process, the school offers candidates the option of a preparatory informational interview before submitting an application. Admission requirements include official transcripts, GMAT score, essays, two letters of recommendations and test of English. The application may be completed in English or Spanish.

In keeping with IESE's international outlook, an International Advisory Board (IAB) has been operating since 1989, composed of Chairmen and CEO's from multinational corporations in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The IAB's mission is to advise IESE's management on all matters related to current trends in the economy and business management.
IESE’s International Advisory Board meets annually to discuss the school’s development over the past year, as well as upcoming challenges and goals. The most recent edition of the meeting was held on April 17, 2009.
Notable IAB members include Michel Camdessus of the Banque de France, Victor K. Fung of the Li & Fung Group, N.R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys Technologies, Rafael del Pino of Ferrovial, Franck Riboud of Groupe Danone, Martin Sorrell of WPP Group and Peter Sutherland of BP.
In 2010, IESE inaugurated a new executive education center located in midtown Manhattan.
Located at 165 W 57th Street, the newly refurbished building was originally designed to showcase the arts. Built in 1916 and located across the street from Carnegie Hall, it was commissioned by Louis H. Chalif (1876–1948) from the brother architects George and Henry Boehm to house his dance studio and the Normal School of Dancing. The design called for an asymmetrical facade with motifs inspired by the Italian Renaissance and Mannerism periods. It was to feature tan-gray colored brick laid in a diamond pattern and polychrome terracotta with classical and theatrical references that adorn the upper stories of the building.
In 2007, the building was chosen to be IESE Business School's new home in North America: the IESE New York Center. The building's facade has been preserved, while the interior – with 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2) of space on six floors – has been transformed into a state-of-the-art learning environment. The center will feature multi-functional spaces for breakout sessions, food services, working spaces for staff and research assistants, two large amphitheater-style classrooms, offices and a chapel.
IESE's New York Center is home to the Institute for Media and Entertainment (IME). With IME’s research support, IESE delivers executive education programs for companies and individuals from leading firms in the industry like Disney, Google, Time Warner, Viacom, Discovery and others. IME and IESE are program partners in the Advanced Management Program (AMP) in Media and Entertainment or the "Media AMP." The Media AMP is an intensive business education program for seasoned, high-potential executives from media and entertainment companies all over the world. The program is a first of its kind in the industry and is jointly offered with industry thought leader The Paley Center for Media.
Other media and entertainment programs offered at the IESE New York Center include Advanced Digital Media Strategies and Branding in Media and Entertainment. Custom programs are also developed for companies to address their specific business and executive training needs.
Additionally, IME maintains a media and entertainment business blog that provides free research reports and commentary regarding industry news and trends.
The IESE International Case Competition is an annual business case competition run by IESE for MBA students from across the world. The competition has been held since 1995, and is sponsored by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.
